Hart TKD Brings Home Five Medals from the National Championships

Our team returned from the ITKD National Championships — held on 22–23 August 2026 at the Claudelands Event Centre in Hamilton — with plenty to be proud of. From just three competitors, Hart TKD came away with five medals — one gold, two silver and two bronze — a fantastic return that speaks to the hard work and heart our students put in on the day.

Every one of our competitors stepped onto the mat against the best in the country and represented the club superbly. To medal at nationals is no small feat, and to do it across gold, silver and bronze with such a small squad is something the whole club can celebrate.

Our medallists:

  • Alison Plazanet — Gold in Patterns and Silver in Pre-Arranged Sparring
  • David Viner — Silver in Sparring
  • Daniel Kellett — Bronze in Sparring and Bronze in the Dan Specialty event

From our youngest peewee competitor through to our senior grades, the team showed real class right across the board.

Just as importantly, Hart TKD was represented by three umpires — Master Breen, Mrs Hart and Mr Rail – who gave their time to officiate throughout the event. Tournaments simply can’t run without officials, and their contribution behind the scenes was every bit as valuable as the medals won on the floor. A huge thank you to them for volunteering their weekend and helping the championships run smoothly.

Our region, Auckland North, also had a strong showing overall, finishing third on the combined points table – a great reflection of the depth of talent across the region.

Congratulations to everyone who competed, officiated and supported the team. We’re incredibly proud of you all. Onto the next one!
